Historical notes

In 1923, Antonio Eleuteri,

presented a petition to the municipality of Rome for the construction of a house designed by Umberto Travaglio and to use as a cafe-pastries, at the portion n.3 of the Lot VII angle between the crossbar XIII, today Via Lucio Coilio and Viale del Comitato, the Avenue of the current  Viale della Marina. The goal was to expand a pre-existing cottage, built on the same area in 1920 on commission from the first owner Giovanni Bisattini, from ‘engineer Giuseppe Zannini.

Against the background of a large terrace, which corresponded all’avancorpo for pastry, stood a building, placed on a single plane, characterized by a mixed-line form and by ‘projection of the three-sided bow windows located in the center of the main facade.

The building, stood out for the formal features and the richly decorated, typical aspects of the language of the young designer, at that time still influenced by the expressive potential of showy Barocchetto Romano title that we wanted to take as the name of the group.

As is apparent from the documents of the era the restaurant, called “Empire Trajan”,

was long one of the most popular bakeries, ice cream, liqueurs and tea-rooms of Ostia; Today its interior is occupied by a restaurant-pizzeria, while the first and top floor is our Guest  House, whose rooms recently renovated and tastefully decorated welcome our guests every day.
